Overview
This project centred around creating a garden with personality. The client wanted something different from a typical outdoor renovation, with a feature that would become the focal point of the entire space.
Inspired by the colours and craftsmanship of traditional stained glass, we developed a design that balanced artistic expression with practical outdoor living. Every element of the garden was designed to complement the bespoke stained glass installation while creating distinct areas for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying the outdoors.
The result is a contemporary garden filled with texture, colour, and atmosphere. By combining natural stone, modern decking, architectural structures, and layered planting, we created a space that feels unique to the client and unlike any other garden we've built.
The brief
The client wanted to transform an uninspiring garden into a vibrant outdoor space centred around a custom stained glass feature. They were looking for a design that felt creative and personal while still providing practical areas for dining, entertaining, and everyday use.
A dedicated seating area, attractive lighting, and low-maintenance materials were all important considerations. The garden also needed to feel inviting throughout the day and into the evening, with lighting playing a key role in creating atmosphere after dark.
Our challenge was to ensure the stained glass feature felt naturally integrated into the garden rather than simply added as a decorative element. The entire scheme needed to work together as one cohesive design.
What we delivered
Garden design
Our design process focused on positioning the stained glass feature as the visual centrepiece of the garden. The layout was carefully planned to draw attention towards the artwork while maintaining a natural flow between each outdoor space.
Through material selection, planting design, and structural features, we created a garden that feels balanced and harmonious, with every element contributing to the overall vision.
Sandstone patio installation
A beautifully finished sandstone patio provides a practical and elegant foundation for outdoor dining and social gatherings.
The natural variation within the stone introduces texture and character while complementing the colours found within the stained glass feature. Its timeless appearance helps balance the more contemporary elements of the design.
Bespoke stained glass feature
The centrepiece of the project is a custom-designed stained glass installation, created specifically for the space.
Positioned to catch natural light throughout the day, the feature creates ever-changing patterns of colour and shadow across the garden. It serves as both a work of art and a focal point, giving the garden its own distinctive identity and setting it apart from more conventional outdoor spaces.
Landscaping and planting
A detailed planting scheme was developed to provide year-round interest and soften the hard landscaping throughout the garden.
Layers of ornamental grasses, flowering perennials, and structural shrubs were selected to bring movement, colour, and seasonal variation to the space. The planting was designed to enhance the artistic feel of the garden while remaining manageable and easy to maintain.

The result
