Modern Minimalist Garden
Designed around simplicity, clean lines, and low-maintenance living, this project transformed an underused outdoor space into a contemporary garden that feels both practical and inviting. Featuring a spacious patio, artificial lawn, sleeper retaining walls, and a carefully considered planting scheme, the finished garden provides a calm and functional setting for everyday life.

Overview
The client wanted a garden that felt modern, uncluttered, and easy to maintain throughout the year. The existing space lacked definition and had become difficult to enjoy due to uneven levels, tired landscaping, and limited usable space.
Our design approach focused on creating a garden with clear structure and balance. By combining simple materials, strong geometry, and carefully selected planting, we developed a space that feels larger, brighter, and more connected to the home.
The result is a contemporary outdoor environment that prioritises usability while maintaining a clean and sophisticated appearance.
The brief
The client's goal was to create a stylish garden that required minimal upkeep while still offering visual interest throughout the seasons. They wanted a space that could be enjoyed by family and friends without the ongoing maintenance associated with traditional lawns and heavily planted borders.
A generous entertaining area was a key requirement, alongside practical solutions for the garden's changing levels. The design needed to feel modern and timeless, with materials chosen for both durability and appearance.
Our challenge was to simplify the space without making it feel empty, creating a garden that felt elegant, welcoming, and highly functional.
What we delivered
Patio installation and planting plan
A large contemporary patio was installed to form the centrepiece of the garden. Designed as an extension of the home's living space, it provides ample room for outdoor dining, entertaining, and relaxing.
The clean lines and premium materials help create a refined appearance while offering a durable and practical surface for year-round use.
Using a restrained palette of ornamental grasses, evergreen shrubs, and architectural planting, we created texture and movement without overwhelming the simplicity of the design.
The planting complements the modern aesthetic while ensuring the garden remains easy to maintain.
Sleeper retaining walls and artificial grass
Timber sleeper retaining walls were introduced to manage level changes across the garden and create greater structure within the design.
The natural timber finish adds warmth and texture while helping define different zones throughout the space. Beyond their practical purpose, the sleeper walls contribute to the clean architectural feel of the garden.
The artificial grass creates a strong visual contrast against the hard landscaping while remaining usable throughout the year. It offers a neat and consistent finish that supports the minimalist aesthetic of the overall design.
